WLAN-WiMAX Project at KPJIC Nilai

This time i would like to share about my current work at KPJIC Kota Seriemas Nilai Negeri Sembilan.

From the google earth images you can see that KPJIC consist of 2 main building which is the main admin building situated office, classes, auditorium and the other side is the puteri emas hostel for girl student.The purpose of this project is to provide full WiFi coverage for entire campus and hostel and in the future they would like to expand the coverage with new building development within that area.

For this project, BSO Technologies proposed to KPJIC a HybridMAX solution that combined WiMAX and WiFi technology to ensure larger coverage and trusted link between 2 site building.HybridMAX is the most convenience solution because to link up hostel and main building, KPJIC unable to lay any cable or any other wired media because between that building there are pipes of oil and gas own by Petronas. Using 5.8Ghz WiMAX signal, the two site can be link up so that the student in the hostel also can get internet access from their main college network.

The physical network design is such belom but on the installation day, all ProST WiFi was relocated from auditorium to the hostel. The distance between main building and hostel is almost 200 meter make it impossible to lay Cat6 cable and to lay fiber it is too expensive and not suitable since the usage at the hostel is only for surfing and low bandwidth usage.

In the main building, equipment installed are
-1 Airspan 5.8GHz Base Station (Backhaul)
-1 RGNet A4 (triple A Server-hotspot management server)
-1 3Com Switch 24 port
-9 3Com 8769 802.11a/b/g PoE Access Point

In the hostel (5 floor building), equipments installed are
-3 ProST-WiFi 5.8GHz (backhaul connection)
-3 3Com switch 24 port
-3 6U wall mount rack
-11 3Com 8769 802.11a/b/g PoE Access Point

In order to fullfill requirenment to enlarge wireless coverage, WiMAX 802.16 was created and this technologies is said as an upgrade and problem solver of limitation in WiFi system. Our HybridMAX system combine WiMAX with WiFi technology to increase distance and radius of coverage. From the picture above, the basestation that is Micromax is connected to several ProST and ProST WiFi where after that connected to Access point as the last mile. The connection between basestation and ProST use WiMAX 5.8GHz unlicense frequency and it able to travel up to 50km radius. As seen in the picture, WiMAX also can be use as a backhaul to connect two different network without wire and this is good in situation where laying cable is almost imposible. in our HybridMAX architecture we also provide equipment know as Secure Wireless Controller to manage and control wireless user by bandwidth allocater, content filtering, account and billing, autentication and restriction and many other management process. Project name: Supply and Install WiMAX WLAN Bridge at KSKB Sg Buloh

KSKB generally is a health college produced physiotherapist, radiotherapist, environmental health and other else. Before this, the network coverage only cover the college main building and not the hostel and hostel management office. The need of the network that intergrate with KSKB network and internet access at the hostel area are critical especially on the new student registration day. BSO proposed KSKB the WLAN Bridge  solution to create the connection between College and Hostel building because between this two site there are a small hill and on top of the hill there are several high-tension electricity power cable.

WiMAX 5.8GHz was used to create a backhaul connection and in this project, product by Airspan was used.Three WiMAX equipments with their accesories that are MicroMAX Base Station, ProST and ProST-WiFi. All of this equipment are an outdoor equipment that robust to environment and passed IP66 standard. In the end of the installation phase, the test on signal received between 3 item  produced successful result 16QAM signal that ensure full speed WiMAX connection. The project was succesfully initiate and completed and only wait for training phase with KSKB IT department person.
